Hello and welcome to Laurel’s Bay Preschool, Abuja. 

At Laurel’s Bay, we use the natural curiosity of children and stimulating resources to teach children Numeracy, Reading, Critical thinking, and other important developmental skills to enable them build a solid and lasting foundation for the rest of their lives.

At Laurel’s Bay Preschool, much emphasis is places on nurturing children in ways that enhance their creativity and also highlight the importance of respect for themselves, others, the society and their environment at large.

Some of you might ask, what is Laurel’s Bay?

Well, in ancient Greece, crowns are made of branches and leaves of the Laurel and it is a symbol of victory, reward and recognition. So, Laurel’s Bay Preschool is a home for bringing up kings, Queens and victors to become confident men and women that will excel in their chosen careers in future.

At Laurel’s Bay Preschool, we are committed to providing a safe, secure facility that is equipped with developmentally appropriate resources.

Our approach to your Child’s learning is focused on initiative, planning, engagement, problem solving, use of resources and reflecting.

Our Preschool’s culture is built on RESPECT! Respect for self, others, society and everything at large.

We provide an avenue for friendship to thrive amongst pupils, the Preschool and parents and we also place emphasis on building a loving and caring Preschool community.

We run a comprehensive curriculum at Laurel’s Bay Preschool. We use a blend of HighScope, British Early Years Framework and Nigerian Curriculum, with a touch of Religious and International Components. The Religious Component covers Islam and Christianity only.

TIPS ON GROOMING A READER

1.     Read to your child daily.

2.     Read in front of your child.

3.     Explore environmental sounds with your child.

4.     Make silly faces with silly sounds.

5.     Play with words and alliterations with your child.

6.     Explore rhymes and rhyming words with your child.

7.     Be informed and involved in the phonics system used at your child’s school.

8.     Encourage your child to read often, even babies.

9.     Start with attractive picture books.

All these and more can be done while carrying out our day to day activities i.e cooking, bathing, shopping, e.t.c.

It is important to take them out to read i.e at parks, while you are shopping in the supermarket/mall (NOT MARKET!), children’s library (there is one at Wuse Zone 4 library), and eateries. Encourage them to read out load to your friends & family, their friends, classmates, e.t.c.
